ADC Presidential Primaries Marred by Allegations of Malpractice
Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a 2027 presidential hopeful of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has warned that the current presidential primaries are plagued by ugly and disturbing malpractices. Speaking after voting in his Borno ward, he said he has received multiple reports from across the country pointing to irregularities that threaten the credibility of the exercise.
Hayatu-Deen added that numerous callers have been urging him to withdraw from the race in favour of another candidate, claiming his continued participation would cause problems for the party. He noted that in Kaduna State, party members were told a consensus had been reached and that he had stepped down, even though no such agreement existed. Similar claims surfaced in Zaria, where supporters were denied their right to vote as the process stalled.
Despite the allegations, the aspirant described the voting in his own Borno ward as peaceful and satisfactory, with residents assuring him of massive support for his candidature. However, he accused electoral officers of abandoning their duty to collate results openly, instead retreating to a secluded area to fill out sheets without voter presence — an act he labelled criminal and fraudulent.
Hayatu-Deen called on the ADC leadership to confront these challenges head‑on to safeguard the party’s reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stressed that any aspirant who has cleared the screening process should be allowed to compete freely, fairly, and transparently.
He concluded by vowing to resist the alleged malpractices to the end, insisting that the fight for a credible primary process will continue until justice is served.
