The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prosecute the party’s factional National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, for alleging that he gained unauthorized access to INEC’s nomination portal and uploaded candidates for the 2027 general election.
The claim, which circulated widely on social media, suggested that Bala’s faction had secured INEC’s access code and successfully uploaded the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 polls.
INEC Declares the Claim Forged
In a swift response, INEC issued a clarification stating that the document purporting to show Bala’s access to the portal was forged and that the entire allegation was false.
Reacting to the clarification, the ADC’s spokesperson, Abdullahi, emphasized that the party welcomes INEC’s prompt correction but stressed that the false statement was a deliberate attempt to mislead the Nigerian public.
ADC’s Demand for Legal Action
The ADC warned that publicly claiming to have accessed a restricted INEC platform and exercising powers reserved for recognised party officials is a serious offence. The party urged INEC to refer the matter to law‑enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution of Nafiu Bala and any individuals involved in originating or spreading the falsehood.
As a responsible political organisation, the ADC maintains that such misinformation undermines electoral integrity and must be addressed according to the law.
