Activist Lawyer Idam Accuses APC of Scapegoating Rivers Gov Fubara
Activist lawyer Maduabuchi Idam has claimed that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara was treated as a scapegoat, while other All Progressives Congress (APC) governors were handed automatic tickets for the 2027 election.
Speaking to Daily Post, Idam reacted to Fubara’s decision to withdraw from the governorship race, noting that many APC colleagues faced no opposition in seeking re‑election.
He said the contrast was humiliating, pointing out that fellow APC leaders received automatic nominations despite Fubara’s public support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he expressed by chanting “On your mandate.”
Idam urged Nigerians to shift focus from political ticket battles to the country’s deteriorating economy, describing the automatic tickets as rewards for enduring hard times.
He lamented that Nigeria’s economic condition has worsened under the ruling party, calling the situation painful and disheartening.
Regarding Fubara’s political future, Idam warned that the governor’s withdrawal could signal the end of his relevance, adding that lasting influence would have required notable achievements in office.
The lawyer said there is little evidence of transformative projects or people‑oriented programmes attributable to Fubara that would secure his legacy.
Idam suggested that Fubara’s concerns may now lie beyond politics, worrying about possible retaliation from opponents or anti‑graft agencies after he leaves office.
He expressed broader concern about Nigeria’s political system, arguing that laws and structures enable oppression while citizens can only observe without power to resist.
