Abia LP Unveils Three Committees to Strengthen 2027 Election Preparations
Chieftains of the Labour Party in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, have reaffirmed their backing for Governor Alex Otti and announced the creation of three strategic committees aimed at fortifying the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The resolutions emerged from a communiqué issued after a strategic meeting convened on Monday by Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Chairman of the stakeholders’ forum and Chief of Staff to the Governor.
The gathering focused on consolidating the party’s recent achievements, enhancing internal unity, and intensifying grassroots mobilisation in preparation for the next electoral cycle.
Participants praised Governor Otti for the ongoing transformation across Abia State, citing flagship projects such as the Abia International Airport, the Umuomaiukwu Smart School, and several road infrastructure developments.
Stakeholders noted that these initiatives have bolstered public confidence in the administration and demonstrated a clear commitment to regional development.
Unity within the Labour Party was emphasized, with leaders insisting that every member—regardless of tenure—should enjoy equal rights, mutual respect, inclusiveness, and fairness to ensure sustained party growth.
The communiqué outlined that the committees would inform residents about the Otti administration’s accomplishments while consolidating support for the Labour Party in the lead‑up to 2027.
Members pledged to back all Labour Party candidates in future elections, asserting that victory hinges on unity, collective responsibility, and coordinated action.
“We reaffirmed our commitment to supporting all candidates of the Labour Party at every level of the forthcoming elections, recognising that the success of the party depends on collective responsibility, unity of purpose and coordinated action.”
Communiqué
The forum welcomed assurances from Pastor Ajagba that compensation for persons affected by the land acquisition for the Abia International Airport has been approved by the state government, with confidence that all eligible beneficiaries will receive their entitlements.
Leaders also commended the state government’s efforts to improve electricity supply in Nsulu, particularly in Umunna Nsulu, and expressed optimism that work on the project will commence soon.
Youths and eligible residents were encouraged to tap into empowerment and capacity‑building programmes introduced by the Abia State Government, including TECHRISE, the Abia Leadership Academy, the Abia Smart School Initiative, and other youth development schemes.
Three Strategic Committees Established
To operationalise its resolutions, the stakeholders approved the formation of three committees:
- Empowerment Committee – tasked with identifying and coordinating eligible beneficiaries for government empowerment, employment, entrepreneurship, and capacity‑building programmes.
- Voter Education and Sensitisation Committee – responsible for educating residents on Continuous Voter Registration, Permanent Voter Card collection, civic participation, and the achievements of the Labour Party‑led administration.
- Mobilisation Committee – charged with strengthening party structures at the grassroots, promoting reconciliation among members, engaging stakeholders, and mobilising support for Labour Party candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The stakeholders appealed to the Abia State Government to accelerate ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects in Nsulu, especially strategic road projects and other public facilities capable of improving socio‑economic development.
They also urged Labour Party members and supporters to maintain peaceful conduct during the electioneering period, embracing issue‑based campaigns, political tolerance, and responsible democratic participation.
The forum expressed appreciation to Pastor Caleb Ajagba for his purposeful leadership and commitment to the development of Nsulu, reaffirming its dedication to working in unity to sustain good governance, deepen democratic participation, and strengthen the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
