Lukman Calls for Stronger Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has urged Nigeria’s opposition parties to sharpen their tactics if they hope to unseat the ruling party in 2027.
While he openly wishes to see President Bola Tinubu and the APC defeated, Lukman expressed frustration with the current direction of the opposition.
He warned that without a clear, unified approach, the opposition risks repeating the shortcomings seen in the 2023 general elections, even after any judicial outcomes.
Lukman stressed that personal ambitions among opposition leaders must be set aside so that national interests take precedence.
“I want the APC and President Tinubu out of government in 2027, but the way we are proceeding leaves me frustrated,” he said.
Reflecting on the coalition efforts launched roughly two years ago, he noted the original goals were to unite opposition leaders and to build a party capable of holding elected officials accountable.
As things stand, Lukman fears the opposition will fall back into the same patterns of 2023 and expect a miraculous turnaround without genuine reform.
