Veteran Nollywood Actor Taiwo Adeshina (Elegbeje Ado) Passes Away
The Yoruba film industry is in mourning after the death of veteran actor and pastor Taiwo Adeshina, widely recognized by his stage name Elegbeje Ado.
Filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi confirmed the loss, prompting an outpouring of grief from fans, colleagues, and industry stakeholders across the entertainment sector.
Adeshina built a distinguished career spanning more than 20 years in Yoruba cinema, becoming a familiar presence in households that cherished epic and classic productions.
He was especially renowned for his fluent Yoruba delivery and his frequent portrayal of kings, chiefs, elders, and other traditional figures, roles that cemented his reputation as a stalwart of indigenous storytelling.
The alias “Elegbeje Ado” originated from one of his early, popular movie characters; over time, the stage name eclipsed his real name in public recognition.
His performances significantly contributed to the preservation of Yoruba tradition and history on screen, influencing a generation of filmmakers and audiences alike.
In the later phase of his career, around 2025, Adeshina shifted focus toward Christian ministry and gospel filmmaking, balancing preaching with acting in faith‑based projects such as the gospel film Egberun Odun.
In previous interviews, he spoke candidly about industry pressures, including temptations to join secret societies, emphasizing his steadfast refusal and unwavering commitment to his Christian faith.
