Rita Edochie Condemns Polygamy After Mr Ibu’s Family Property Battle
Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie took to Instagram to voice her strong opposition to polygamy, using the recent property feud within the family of late actor Mr Ibu as a stark example of its damaging consequences.
She argued that no matter how polygamy is romanticized as a cultural tradition, it consistently undermines peace, unity, and harmony in households across Nigeria and Africa.
In her post, she wrote that she does not want to be associated with a practice that has caused rivalry, jealousy, unhealthy competition, bitterness, divided loyalties, inheritance disputes, and prolonged conflicts.
Edochie emphasized that the pain intensifies when the patriarch passes away, leaving behind bitter struggles over assets and relationships.
The public disagreement among Mr Ibu’s relatives over property and other matters serves as a painful reminder of how polygamous structures can fracture families.
She urged those currently in polygamous unions or considering them to reconsider, warning that the practice jeopardizes familial stability.
