Social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan (VDM), clarified his reasons for visiting the Oba of Iwo in Osun State, who recently bestowed upon him a chieftaincy title in Iwoland, amid claims and criticism aimed at the ruler.
In a widely shared video, VDM noted that numerous individuals had alleged the monarch supports bandits and jihadists, prompting him to go see for himself and draw his own conclusions.
“Folks have claimed the ruler backs bandits and jihad, and that’s why I decided to go,” he remarked.
The activist laughed about momentarily forgetting his new chieftaincy title, admitting he had to look it up again when others inquired.
He emphasized that the title carries responsibilities, and he is still getting used to it.
“Now that I hold a kingly title, many activities are off‑limits for me. When they asked for my chieftaincy name today I realized I’d forgotten it, so I had to check it again; I nearly blurted out ‘tatashe’,” he added.
VDM also stressed that he likes to confirm facts himself instead of trusting online rumors before reaching a judgment.
His comments have generated a range of reactions on social platforms, with numerous Nigerians debating his justification and talking about the importance of his chieftaincy distinction.
