Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho has completed a move to Turkish side Bursaspor, signing a three‑year contract with the newly promoted club.
Transfer Announcement
The Green Crocodiles confirmed the transfer on July 17, sharing a short unveiling video across their social media channels with the caption “Welcome to our family, Kelechi Iheanacho 💚🤍.”
Celtic Spell and Departure
The 29‑year‑old arrived at Bursaspor after leaving Scottish champions Celtic, where negotiations for a new contract broke down.
During his time in Glasgow, Iheanacho played a key role as Celtic secured a domestic double in the 2025/26 season. He scored vital league goals against Dundee, Hibernian and Motherwell in the closing weeks of the campaign and added another in the Scottish Cup final victory over Dunfermline.
Across all competitions, he finished with nine goals and one assist in 24 appearances under manager Martin O’Neill.
Bursaspor’s Ambitions
Bursaspor earned promotion to the Trendyol 1. Lig, Turkey’s second division, after an impressive campaign last season. The club is targeting an immediate return to the Turkish Super Lig and views Iheanacho as a key addition to their attacking lineup.
Club Background
Based in the northwestern city of Bursa, Bursaspor remains one of Turkey’s most recognised clubs. They shocked Turkish football by winning the Super Lig title in the 2009/10 season, becoming one of the few teams outside the traditional powerhouses to lift the trophy. The club has also claimed the Turkish Cup once.
