Segalink Questions Peter Obi’s Leadership Credentials
Human rights activist Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, said that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful Peter Obi does not possess the qualities needed to steer Nigeria.
He argued that Obi’s support base is rooted in public anger rather than genuine national leadership, describing the movement as an online “mob.”
“It is obvious to the blind and audible to the deaf, that somebody who is playing to the gallery, who postures as one thing and is actually another, should be revealed for who they are,” Awosanya stated.
He added, “As far as I’m concerned, Peter Obi is just a leader of the mob, somebody who is surfing the wave of the angry people… to demonize people and blackmail people in order to gain attention to themselves, and then bully themselves into political power.”
Responding to whether his criticism stemmed from disagreement with Obi’s supporters, Awosanya denied any personal conflict, saying he has no friction with the Obidient movement and is focused on his own work.
He alleged that members of the Obidient group tried to hijack the #EndSARS protests for political gain, claiming they were a “cancerous node” within the advocacy and later vilified everyone involved when their attempt failed.
Awosanya recalled his earlier praise for Obi, noting he had commended the former governor for speaking on issues affecting vulnerable citizens, insisting those remarks were observations, not endorsements.
Nevertheless, he maintained that Obi’s record shows divisiveness, citing past actions that pitted Christians against Catholics during his tenure as governor, and said evidence of such behavior exists.
He concluded by warning that widespread narratives on social media should not be mistaken for facts, emphasizing, “The fact that the lie is viral doesn’t make it the truth.”
