Jordan Henderson Suffers Wrist Injury During Celebration
England suffered a major setback at the 2026 FIFA World Cup when veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson was ruled out for the rest of the tournament due to a serious wrist injury requiring surgery.
The incident occurred moments after England’s dramatic 3‑2 last‑16 victory over Mexico at the Estadio Azteca. Henderson, who did not feature in the match, joined his teammates and supporters on the pitch to celebrate the win.
While attempting to climb over the advertising hoardings, he fell awkwardly and landed heavily on his arm. Medical staff rushed to his aid, provided oxygen, and transported him on a stretcher to a hospital in Mexico City for further evaluation.
Scans confirmed a fractured wrist that will necessitate surgical intervention, effectively ending Henderson’s World Cup campaign.
England head coach Thomas Tuchel addressed the injury after the match, stating, “Jordan [Henderson] just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad.” He added that the doctor confirmed Henderson would remain in hospital overnight.
Although Henderson is expected to miss the remainder of the tournament, reports indicate he hopes to stay with the England squad for the rest of their World Cup journey in the United States, accompanied by a member of the team’s support staff.
