A Nigerian man has shared his painful experience after giving up his university studies and personal goals to support his girlfriend’s academic pursuits in the United Kingdom, only to later learn she had wed another man overseas.
The individual, whose emotional account appeared online, said he and his partner had been together for five years and had made long‑term plans before she relocated.
He explained that he left the University of Lagos to work and finance her dream of studying abroad, convinced that her success would secure their shared future.
Shift in the Relationship After Relocation
He described that, at first, communication stayed consistent after she arrived in the UK.
Months later, however, she grew distant and stopped responding regularly.
“My girlfriend and I were together for five years. We shared dreams, made promises, and imagined a future together. I quit Unilag to fund her education and sponsor her studies in the UK because I believed her achievement was our achievement.”

The heartbroken man said he later found out, through the woman’s younger sister, that she had married a foreign man abroad without telling him. He added that she blocked his number afterward, leaving him without any closure.
