Wike Declares Power Must Be Taken, Not Given, Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sent a strong message to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general election: political power is not a gift, it must be seized through struggle, sacrifice, and hard work.
Speaking from his own experience, Wike emphasized that opposition politics demands strength, solid organisation, and an unyielding will. He reminded party members that achievements in politics are forged in the face of pressure, arrests, and legal challenges.
“Nobody gives power. Power is taken. You have to struggle for it in order to get it. No one gives power, and no one is willing to take it away from you.

He urged candidates not to be deterred by court cases or intimidation, stating that courts serve real people, not ghosts, and that the party’s preparations remain on track.
Overcoming Internal Challenges and Legal Hurdles
Wike acknowledged that the PDP still faces internal disagreements and ongoing litigation, but affirmed that the party is moving forward with its election plans. He pointed to June 26 as the date when parties will receive the access code to upload results, expressing confidence that the PDP is ready.
He also noted that many members are struggling to adjust to life out of power, having grown accustomed to the benefits of office. To succeed, they must adopt a new mindset — moving away from the dependency of “spoiled children” who relied on their father’s daily provisions, especially when that father is now indisposed.
In conclusion, Wike’s message is clear: for the PDP to reclaim power in 2027, it must fight for it, organise effectively, and remain undeterred by legal or internal obstacles.
