Osun APC Rejects Adeleke’s Denial Over Alleged Criminals in Government House
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s response to claims that wanted criminals are being harboured inside the Government House in Osogbo. The party labelled the governor’s reply to the Inspector‑General of Police, Olatunji Disu, as evasive and insisted that certain suspects on the police watch list are being shielded from arrest.
In his statement, Governor Adeleke denied protecting any criminals and urged the police to apprehend anyone found guilty, including members of his own family.
APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, said in a Saturday statement that Adeleke’s denial only confirmed what the party sees as the governor’s reliance on propaganda. Olabisi alleged that a viral video shows a wanted criminal, listed by police, leading a gang into a room within the Government House. He also claimed there are photographs depicting the governor alongside political thugs at public events.
Olabisi criticised the governor’s response, describing it as “grossly evasive” and contrary to what reasonable citizens expect. He added that the denial adds another negative label to Adeleke’s reputation, moving from a “dancing governor” to a “cursing governor” and now a “lying governor.”
He further accused the Adeleke administration of appointing individuals on the police wanted list to political positions, questioning the governor’s alliance with such persons.
Olabisi also took aim at the conduct of members of the ruling party during the IGP’s visit to the state Police Command, saying their behaviour was shameless and needed improvement.
Responding to the APC’s allegations, Jamiu Olawumi, Director of Strategic Communication for the Imole Campaign Council, labelled the claims false and irresponsible. Olawumi argued that the accusation attempts to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force, which provides security at the Government House.
He noted that police officers stationed at the Government House act on behalf of the Inspector‑General of Police and are tasked with maintaining order. If any systemic failure existed, it would be unfortunate, he said.
Olawumi accused the APC of judging Adeleke’s government by the party’s own past conduct, claiming that APC members view their previous administration’s abuse of privilege as the standard against which the current governor is measured.
He reiterated that Governor Adeleke has stated that no criminal should be spared, even if the person is his biological child, and urged the police to invite APC chieftains for questioning over their allegations.
Olawumi added that the police have not prosecuted many suspects already arrested in Osun State, particularly those linked to the APC, suggesting the party’s claims are merely an attempt to gain public sympathy.
Earlier, Governor Adeleke had instructed the police to pursue all suspected criminals in the state, insisting that anyone found guilty should be arrested regardless of political or family ties.
