Former IGP Suleiman Abba Joins PDP, Targets Senate Seat
Former Inspector-General of Police Suleiman Abba announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a rally in Bamaina, Jigawa State.
The event took place on Saturday in the hometown of former Jigawa Governor and PDP leader Sule Lamido.
Abba said he moved to the PDP to pursue his ambition of representing the Jigawa South-West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
“I left the APC for the PDP because I believe this party offers the best platform to deliver real representation for Jigawa South West,” he stated.
He noted the large turnout at the rally as evidence that residents are eager for change.
His campaign will focus on security, agriculture and youth employment, promising to bring the voices of farmers, youths and women to the Senate if elected.
Receiving Abba, Sule Lamido described the defection as a major boost for the PDP ahead of the 2027 general election.
“This is a big catch for the PDP. A man of Abba’s record brings credibility and reach to our party,” Lamido added.
Jigawa State PDP Chairman Babandi Gumel said the party will integrate Abba and his supporters into its structures across the state.
“Today, the PDP is getting stronger in Jigawa South West with the coming of IGP Abba and his thousands of supporters,” Gumel said.
PDP governorship candidate Mustapha Lamido also affirmed that Abba’s move will improve the party’s prospects in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
