Mascot Uzor Kalu, the younger brother of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has pulled out of the Abia State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary. The primary was earlier set for Thursday, May 21.
The APC chieftain said he made the decision after wide consultations. He spoke with family, friends, and key stakeholders across the state.
He noted that while the choice was not easy, it became necessary. He acted in the interest of fairness, equity, and party unity in Abia State.
One major reason for his withdrawal was his brother’s emergence as the APC senatorial candidate. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu now represents the party in that race. Mascot Kalu said stepping down gives other aspirants a fair chance at the governorship ticket.
Mascot Kalu also argued that Abia Central Senatorial District should complete its eight-year power rotation. He stressed the need to respect equity in the state’s political arrangement.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and called on his supporters to stay committed. He urged them to keep participating actively in the party’s activities.
