The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Lagos State, Laja Adeoye, has declared that residents deserve better leadership. He called for fresh ideas and a new style of governance. He made this statement during his official declaration for the 2027 governorship election.
Adeoye, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, said Lagosians have experienced the same pattern of governance for many years. He noted that they are now demanding a change. He spoke at the declaration event. He said the people of Lagos are yearning for fresh leadership ahead of the 2027 poll.
Call for Fresh Leadership
According to Adeoye, the state needs a governor who understands the challenges of the people. The governor must run an accountable and people-oriented administration. He said, “The truth is that Lagos residents are tired. They have seen the ideas and style of governance since 1999. They are yearning for something new.”
He added, “The people want fresh ideas, fresh faces, fresh leadership and a fresh governor. That is what I represent. That is why I have come out to serve. I promise the good people of Lagos State that I will be a good and responsible leader.”
Adeoye promised that his administration would place the welfare of residents at the centre of governance if elected. He said Lagos needs leadership that listens to the people, responds to their needs, and delivers policies to improve their standard of living.
Coalition with PDP Faction
The governorship hopeful expressed excitement over the turnout of leaders and members from both the PDP and APM at the event. Adeoye described himself as a member of the community. He said the warm reception showed that residents identify with his ambition. Many people were excited because one of their own stepped forward to contest the election.
He said his declaration is not merely a personal ambition. It is a call to service and a response to the desire of Lagos residents for a different kind of leadership. Adeoye was formerly aligned with the Governor Seyi Makinde-backed faction of the PDP before moving to the APM. He said the alliance between that PDP faction and the APM became necessary due to unresolved internal disputes within the PDP.
He also alleged that there are efforts to weaken opposition politics at the national level. The coalition, he said, was formed to provide a viable alternative for Lagos residents. According to him, all PDP aspirants under the Makinde-backed faction will contest the 2027 elections on the APM platform. The arrangement will strengthen opposition forces in Lagos and give the people a credible platform to demand better governance.
Unity and Grassroots Mobilisation
Adeoye urged leaders and members of the coalition to remain united as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum. He described the task of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos as a collective responsibility. He said the election is winnable if members stay focused and continue to mobilise at the grassroots. The strength of the alliance lies in community engagement, he noted. The coalition will take its message of renewal and people-oriented governance across the state.
Unveiling of ‘Atunto Eko 1.0’ Manifesto
At the event, Adeoye also presented his manifesto, titled ‘Atunto Eko 1.0’, to party leaders and supporters. He said the manifesto is designed to re-engineer Lagos for inclusive prosperity and people-centred governance. According to him, the document reflects his vision for a Lagos that works for all residents, regardless of class, background or political affiliation. Adeoye said his ambition is driven by the need to build a state where government policies respond directly to the needs of the people. In such a state, leadership remains accountable to residents.
He urged supporters, party leaders and coalition members to continue working together. He said the 2027 governorship election offers Lagos residents an opportunity to choose fresh leadership and a new direction.
