APC Rejects Calls for President Tinubu to Resign Over Insecurity
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected recent demands from the House of Representatives minority caucus calling for President Bola Tinubu to resign over the country’s worsening security situation.
The minority caucus, led by Minority Leader Fred Agbedi, warned that Nigeria is experiencing one of its most challenging periods since the return to democracy in 1999. They cited persistent attacks by criminal groups, rising poverty, and growing public frustration as evidence of governmental failure.
Agbedi urged the president to suspend all political activities linked to the 2027 general election and concentrate fully on governance. The caucus also proposed a six‑month National Security and Economic Recovery Plan to tackle both security and economic difficulties.
In response, APC Director of Publicity Bala Ibrahim defended the president’s record, insisting that Tinubu remains committed to improving security and rebuilding the economy. He described the resignation call as “reckless” and argued that security and economic pressures are not unique to Nigeria.
Ibrahim pointed out that even advanced democracies such as the United States and the United Kingdom face similar challenges — including threats to the White House, inflation, and political resignations — yet no one labels those nations as failed states.
He emphasized that the APC and the federal government are actively strategising to bring the situation under control and that calling for the president’s resignation only deepens divisions rather than fostering solutions.
“All hands must be on deck to confront the challenge, not to inject sentiments that will deepen divisions,” Ibrahim said, adding that the president’s ambition remains to lead a united, secure, and prosperous Nigeria.
