President Tinubu Advises APC on Lagos Deputy Governor Choice
Lagos State Deputy Governor and APC 2027 governorship aspirant Obafemi Hamzat disclosed that President Bola Tinubu urged party leaders to settle the running mate issue themselves after proposing that the deputy governor should be a young woman.
Hamzat explained that the selection considered Lagos’ political geography, noting that as an eastern indigene and the incumbent governor hailing from the central zone, the candidate needed to come from the western part of the state.
He said he had no prior personal relationship with the eventual running mate, Damilola Sonayon‑James, obtaining her contact only through a third party, but stressed that her track record of community service and grassroots development was the decisive factor.
The deputy governor also encouraged young Nigerian women not to be swayed by negative narratives about the country, insisting that opportunities remain for those willing to contribute to society.
