Sophia Momodu Files Defamation Suit Against Caroline Hutchings
Nigerian socialite and reality TV star Sophia Momodu has initiated legal proceedings against Nollywood actress Caroline Hutchings over an alleged defamatory Snapchat post.
Although Hutchings did not mention any names, the post quickly went viral, with many internet users interpreting it as referring to Momodu.
Legal Notice and Attempts at Resolution
Acting through her counsel, Prince (Dr) Richard Oma Ahonaruogho, SAN, of Ahonaruogho & Co. (Paradise Law Firm), Momodu served Hutchings with a Notice of Intended Legal Proceedings.
The notice states that the Snapchat post was widely understood by the public as targeting Momodu, causing reputational harm, emotional distress, character attacks and sustained cyberbullying.
It also notes that Momodu personally contacted Hutchings on 3 July 2026, requesting a public clarification if the post was not about her, but Hutchings neither replied nor provided any clarification, allowing speculation to persist.
Demands for Redress
Through her lawyers, Momodu demands an immediate retraction, an unreserved public apology in nationally circulated newspapers, ₦10 billion in damages, and other appropriate reliefs.
The case highlights the growing impact of social media statements on personal reputation and the legal recourse available to public figures in Nigeria.
