NDC Chieftain Warns Tinubu: Peaceful Change Essential to Avoid Violence
A senior figure in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Eze Chikamnayo, has called on President Bola Tinubu to stop interfering with opposition parties.
He pointed out that a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, recently overturned an earlier ruling that had compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.
Chikamnayo alleged that the president is leading a deliberate onslaught against opposition groups and warned that making peaceful change impossible would inevitably provoke a violent change.
“There is a deliberate onslaught against opposition parties by the President,” he said. “I want to use this opportunity to plead with his excellency President Tinubu to get his hands off the opposition parties. All it takes for peaceful change is for him to allow democracy to happen. If he makes peaceful change impossible, a violent change will be inevitable.”
Meanwhile, NDC spokesperson Seriake Dickson clarified that the party has not been deregistered. He noted that since the Friday court ruling, interest in the NDC has surged, with thousands of Nigerians visiting the party’s website to learn more and register as members.
Appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Dickson thanked Nigerians for their support, solidarity, and prayers, saying the increased awareness has strengthened belief in the party’s vision and its candidates.
