A Nigerian service member has ignited online debate after calling out certain security agents for neglecting their duty to safeguard civilians, claiming they have forgotten their core mandate to serve and protect.
In a widely shared video, the enlisted individual spoke to troops, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other uniformed bodies, expressing sorrow over the unjustified aggression aimed at innocent citizens.
Soldier Calls on Personnel to Recall Their Obligation
He remarked, “Let me pose a question to all soldiers, law‑enforcement officers, civil defence staff and fellow security agents: our role is fundamentally a service.”
He added, “I realize many of you have forgotten that you are here to serve… the extent of cruelty is unacceptable. Some of you act with outright malice.”
The uniformed speaker emphasized that donning a badge does not grant permission to harass or abuse the populace, underscoring that the vocation rests on principles of service, honesty and self‑sacrifice.
Later he questioned, “If the uniform were taken away, what would remain? Would you still be able to speak rudely and insult people at will?”
