Sam Amadi Reveals Uzodimma and Peter Obi Warned Him Against Political Contests
A former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has said that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, each urged him not to pursue elective positions.
Amadi explained that Uzodimma discouraged him from contesting the Imo State governorship in 2014, while Obi recently advised him to abandon a Senate bid because the race could turn violent.
Recalling his talk with Uzodimma, Amadi quoted the governor (then a senator) as saying, “Sam, you know you ought to be Governor of Imo State, but you cannot do the things we do.”
Amadi added that the remark highlighted the tough and sometimes dubious environment candidates face when seeking political office.
In a separate conversation, Obi told Amadi, “Sam, do not run. It will be very violent. You are a good man. You cannot do the evil they do. I know how evil they are.”
Despite these warnings, Amadi declared that fear of violence or political misconduct would not stop him, stating, “But I will run for Governor, evil or no evil,” and closing his statement with the phrase, “The violent shall end by violence.”
He did not disclose when he intends to formally announce his candidacy, which party he will represent, or what preparations have begun ahead of the next Imo State governorship election.
