APGA Explains Decision to Skip Presidential Race
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has clarified that its absence from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) nomination portal for the 2027 presidential election is a purposeful political choice, not an administrative oversight.
According to the party’s spokesperson, the National Executive Committee reached this conclusion after extensive consultations and opted to endorse President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, describing the move as being in the national interest.
Legislative Candidacies Successfully Submitted
The publicity secretary emphasized that APGA remains fully engaged in the electoral process. All candidates for the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly have been uploaded to the INEC portal within the stipulated timeframe.
He added that the required documentation for Senate, House of Representatives, and state legislative aspirants has been duly submitted, confirming the party’s compliance with INEC’s requirements for those contests.
Party’s Strategy Moving Forward
APGA maintains that its alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress at the presidential level does not signal a withdrawal from the 2027 general election. Instead, the party intends to concentrate on legislative races nationwide to expand its representation in both federal and state assemblies.
The spokesman noted that legislative strength is vital for advancing the party’s programmes, safeguarding supporters’ interests, and contributing to national development. APGA’s immediate focus is therefore on securing more legislative seats and building a stronger presence in the Senate, House of Representatives, and state assemblies.
He urged party members and supporters to stay united, intensify mobilisation for legislative candidates, and back President Tinubu’s re‑election bid in line with the National Executive Committee’s decision.
The clarification followed inquiries about why no APGA presidential candidate appeared on INEC’s nomination portal despite the party’s submissions for other elective positions. The spokesperson reiterated that the omission was intentional and reflects the party’s adopted strategy for the 2027 elections.
