Wike-backed PDP Meets INEC Deadline for 2027 Presidential Ticket
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has rejected allegations that it failed to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline for uploading presidential and vice‑presidential candidates.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Haruna Mohammed said the party successfully uploaded the names and details of its candidates to the INEC nomination portal at exactly 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2026.
Mohammed described the earlier reports as false and misleading, emphasizing that the nomination was completed well within the timeframe stipulated by INEC.
The statement read: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) successfully uploaded the names and particulars of its Presidential and Vice‑Presidential candidates to the INEC nomination portal at exactly 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, 10 July 2026, in full compliance with the Commission’s requirements and within the stipulated timeline.”
The PDP faction warned that the inaccurate story created a false impression of non‑compliance ahead of the 2027 general election and urged the public to disregard the unverified claim.
It reaffirmed its commitment to obey all provisions of the Electoral Act and INEC’s nomination guidelines, and called for a correction of the report in the interest of fairness and professionalism.
