President Tinubu Praises Peaceful APC 2026 Primaries as Sign of Internal Democracy
President Bola Tinubu described the ongoing 2026 APC primaries nationwide as evidence that the ruling party is granting members full participation in the democratic process.
He noted that the exercise demonstrates active involvement of grassroots members in selecting leaders and representatives.
Tinubu arrived at the venue accompanied by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, receiving a warm welcome from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, APC Lagos Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, former Finance Minister Wale Edun, and other party dignitaries.
The President lauded party members for conducting the primaries peacefully and praised their commitment and participation throughout the process.
According to Tinubu, the primaries have been well organised from the ward level up to the local government stage, with governors and party officials managing delegate accreditation, membership registration and other electoral activities in an orderly fashion.
He added that the process reflects a healthy democratic system within the APC, ensuring every member has a voice in decision‑making at the grassroots level.
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going on very well according to plan. This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate. It shows that we have internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well organised. I am very satisfied that Governors have done well in their various states, from the ward congresses to Local Government congresses to the delegate accreditation, validation, membership registration and the certification of the electoral process. It has been done very well, and with this, you could rate democracy at a high level.”
Tinubu reiterated that the party will continue to support open and inclusive democratic exercises that allow members to freely choose candidates for various offices, stressing that grassroots participation remains vital for the nation’s democratic growth.
He also applauded electoral officials, party leaders and security agencies for maintaining peace during the primaries across the country.
Finally, Tinubu urged Nigerians to keep supporting democratic institutions and efforts aimed at preserving national unity and political stability, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to good governance and policies that improve citizens’ livelihoods.
