Why Governor Sheriff Oborevwori Faced No Opposition in APC 2027 Primary
A former Delta House of Assembly speaker, Martin Okonta, has revealed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori encountered no challenger in the APC 2027 governorship primary because of his proven track record and the confidence he enjoys across the state.
Okonta explained that the governor emerged as a consensus candidate after party members expressed trust in his ability to deliver development and maintain inclusive governance.
The direct primary, held on Thursday, saw Oborevwori returned as the APC’s sole flag‑bearer for the 2027 election, securing a total of 345,375 votes from all 25 local government areas of Delta State.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, Okonta praised the governor’s leadership style, describing him as a performer whose impact is felt by every resident.
“I wish to celebrate the governor for who he is and for his performance in his duties,” Okonta said. “He has been well appreciated by all residents because his impact is being felt across the state.”
The former speaker highlighted Oborevwori’s inclusive approach, noting that the governor does not allow sentiment or tribal bias to influence his appointments.
“The governor is not sentimental and he is not tribal. He allows everybody to be part of his government,” Okonta added, expressing his hope that God will continue to guide and protect the governor for the challenges ahead.
