Peter Obi Alleges 2023 Election Was Rigged
The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that the 2023 general election was rigged, insisting that he actually won the contest.
2027 Poll Described as a Contest Between Nigerians and Tinubu’s Government
Speaking in a video that has been circulating online, Obi said the forthcoming 2027 election will be a direct showdown between the Nigerian electorate and the administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
He argued that the nation’s biggest problem today is the lack of effective leadership, adding that the outcome of the last presidential vote did not reflect the true will of the people.
Obi’s Confidence in Voters’ Ability to Effect Change
“You know that I won that election and it was rigged, but that is not a problem,” Obi stated. He expressed confidence that Nigerians have learned from past elections and will find a way to make their votes count in 2027.
The former Anambra governor emphasized that the next election offers citizens another opportunity to decide the country’s direction.
Leadership, Not Personal Ambition, Drives Obi’s Vision
Obi said his political ambition stems from a desire to see Nigeria function properly, not from a personal desperation to occupy the presidency.
“For me, the desperation is to see Nigeria work. I’m not desperate to be president, but I want to create a society where the children of Nigerians will have hope,” he explained.
Vision of an Inclusive Society
He outlined a vision where opportunities are not limited by family background, wealth, or political connections, insisting that “a child of a nobody can be anybody without anything.”
Obi concluded by noting that Nigerians have endured enough sacrifices without seeing the expected improvement in living conditions, and that effective leadership is the missing ingredient needed to turn the tide.
