Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dan Ulasi has described Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike’s open endorsement of President Bola Tinubu as premature and inappropriate.
Ulasi noted that while Wike is free to support Tinubu, making the declaration four months before the 2027 general elections while serving in the Tinubu administration sends a conflicting message to PDP members who are expected to rally behind the opposition.

He argued that the early endorsement is demoralising for party faithful who look to the PDP for a strong alternative in the upcoming polls. Ulasi suggested that Wike could have waited until the election season to explain his reasons for backing the president, rather than announcing his position while still holding a senior role in the opposition.
The remarks come amid ongoing debate about Wike’s continued alignment with the Tinubu government despite his prominent position within the PDP. Ulasi’s comments highlight the tension between personal political choices and party loyalty as Nigeria approaches the next electoral cycle.
