The Incident
A Nigerian individual revealed that he had to repurchase his iPhone for fifty thousand naira after it was allegedly taken by a guest at his gaming venue in Lagos.
How the Theft Unfolded
He explained that the event unfolded at his Ikoyi gaming spot when a stranger, saying he was awaiting a companion, joined them to test a new game.
Shortly after, he noticed the device was missing and reviewed the CCTV, identifying the thief from a recording he had made during the gameplay.
He stated, “I had my phone in the morning, but by evening I paid fifty thousand naira to get it back. The suspect visited our gaming area, played with us, then walked away with the device. When I checked Find My iPhone, it was offline; later it reappeared on Lagos Island.”
Self‑Led Recovery Effort
Rather than contacting law enforcement, he chose to locate the phone on his own after security personnel allegedly asked for one hundred twenty thousand naira to help.
Using the location data on his laptop, he traveled across Lagos Island displaying the suspect’s image to locals, only to learn the phone had already been resold.
He added, “Although I originally purchased the phone for millions of naira, I ended up paying fifty thousand naira to retrieve it from the buyer. Apple’s tracking feature was crucial; without Find My iPhone, recovering it would likely have been impossible.”
Community Reaction
The story generated online discussion, with numerous users applauding Apple’s locating service and others urging Lagos inhabitants to guard their possessions more closely.
He advised Nigerians to stay vigilant and conscious of their environment, emphasizing how swiftly situations can deteriorate.
