Isaac Nwachukwu Sues NDC Over Alleged Primary Election Fraud in Imo North
Senatorial aspirant Isaac Nwachukwu has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Owerri, Imo State, against the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) concerning alleged irregularities in the party’s National Assembly primaries held in June.
He claims he contributed ₦20 million to support the party, but the published list showed his support reduced to ₦10 million.
The suit asks the court to declare him the consensus candidate of NDC for the Imo North senatorial zone in the 2027 general election, to bar the party from fielding any other candidate, and to stop INEC from recognizing another aspirant.
In his affidavit, Nwachukwu states he bought the expression of interest form for the Senate seat, paid ₦20 million into the party’s FCMB account through his lawyer Cajethan Oguzie, and attached proof as exhibits.
He alleges that the screening committee, led by Sam Egwu and Buba Galadimma, mistakenly allocated his ₦20 million to another aspirant, Matthew Omegara, while crediting Omegara’s ₦10 million to him.
Despite clearing the screening process and being shortlisted as a candidate, his name was later replaced with Omegara’s after he was declared the winner of the primary.
Nwachukwu adds that the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, summoned him after former Imo governor Achike Udenwa, via presidential candidate Peter Obi, complained that he should not be fielded.
Among his requests, he seeks a court order directing NDC to issue him a certificate as its official candidate for the Imo North senatorial district.
