Former President Jonathan Meets President Tinubu in Private Aso Rock Discussion
Former President Goodluck Jonathan was reportedly seen at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday, where he held a closed‑door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Nation reported that Jonathan arrived at Aso Villa and engaged in a private discussion with the incumbent president. No official statement was issued following the encounter.
The meeting took place shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejected a claim made by the Kabiru Turaki‑led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The faction alleged that it had manually submitted its candidate list for the 2027 general elections, which includes Jonathan as its presidential hopeful.
INEC emphasized that political parties must submit candidate names through its designated electronic portal. The commission’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Ita‑Messi, clarified in a Leadership interview that manual submission violates established procedures, although she could not confirm whether the faction actually filed any list.
