Former Ambassador Demands Tinubu’s Resignation Over Insecurity
Gana Isa, Nigeria’s former ambassador to Japan, has called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign, asserting that the current administration has neglected its constitutional duty to safeguard Nigerians’ lives and property.
Isa argued that if the federal government cannot effectively address the nation’s security challenges, it should relinquish power. He stressed that Nigeria needs committed, patriotic leadership capable of restoring security and curbing the growing threats of kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.
He urged the authorities to treat the insecurity crisis with the urgency it deserves and questioned the effectiveness of the country’s security architecture in the face of persistent attacks across various regions.
The former Kwara State Deputy Speaker and Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources also criticised the government’s approach to dealing with armed groups, claiming that insecurity has spread nationwide.
“The government should be more serious about tackling insecurity. We need leadership that is committed to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians,” Isa said.
Isa commended the efforts of forest guards, vigilantes and other community‑based security outfits, noting their dedication despite limited funding and inadequate equipment. He called for greater governmental support to enhance their operations.
He further observed that incidents of kidnapping and banditry appear to decline during periods of political party primaries and elections, urging Nigerians to critically examine the underlying security situation.
The Federal Government has repeatedly stated its commitment to combating insecurity through ongoing military operations, enhanced intelligence gathering and improved collaboration among security agencies.
