Stanley Nwabali Rejoins Chippa United Ahead of 2026/27 Season
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has returned to South African Premier Division side Chippa United in preparation for the 2026/27 season, ending a five‑month absence from the team.
His time away from regular match action contributed to his loss of the starting goalkeeper role for Nigeria during that period.
Chippa United announced the goalkeeper’s return via its official social media channels on Sunday, expressing delight at having the Nigerian international back in the squad.
The club’s post read, “Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome @nwabali32 back to the Chilli Boys.”
In a separate statement, Chippa United noted that Nwabali had come back to the Eastern Cape after taking a break, and said they were pleased to welcome him back.
The duration or specifics of the new contract were not disclosed by the club.
Nwabali first signed with Chippa United in 2022 and quickly became a vital player, delivering consistent performances that earned him recognition.
His prominence grew during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where he played a key part in Nigeria’s journey to the final, making several crucial saves as the Super Eagles finished as runners‑up.
Although his performances attracted interest from clubs outside South Africa, he remained with Chippa United until his departure in February 2026.
The hiatus from competitive football limited his playing time and affected his standing in the national team.
Now back with Chippa United, Nwabali aims to secure regular first‑team action, restore his form, and push for a recall to the Super Eagles.
