Former NDC Aspirant Files Lawsuit Over ₦20 Million Payment
A lawyer and former senatorial aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu West, Enugu State, Ogochukwu Onyema, has taken the party to court demanding the return of an alleged ₦20 million payment.
He claims the money was obtained through misrepresentation and undue influence while he was seeking the party’s senatorial ticket.
Details of the Claim
The suit, filed at the Enugu State High Court under case number E/169/2026, names the party’s national leader Seriaki Dickson, Moses Zunoghe, two other individuals and First City Monument Bank (FCMB) as defendants.
Onyema is asking the court to freeze FCMB account 1046691859, said to belong to the party, pending the outcome of the case.
He also seeks an order directing the defendants to refund ₦20 million from that account or any other source to his UBA account 1023323381 held by OAU Onyema & Co at Ogbete Main Market, Enugu.
In addition, he is demanding ₦200 million as general damages for psychological trauma, embarrassment, hardship, discomfort and inconvenience allegedly caused by the defendants’ conduct.
The claim includes a request for 10 percent monthly interest on the ₦20 million from June 2 2026, when his demand letter was acknowledged, until full payment is made, plus interest on any judgment sum from the date of judgment to final settlement.
Court Proceedings and Background
The court has tentatively adjourned the matter to Thursday, July 2 2026 for further directions.
Onyema previously said he felt “duped” after paying several sums described as “party support” as a condition for securing the ticket, and after being denied the nomination he wrote for a refund and resorted to litigation when no response was forthcoming.
