FCT Development Depends on Tinubu and National Assembly Support, Says Minister Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has emphasized that the ongoing development in the territory would have been impossible without the backing of President Bola Tinubu and the timely passage of the FCTA’s budget by the National Assembly.
Speaking at the commissioning of a newly completed road project in the Karsana District, Wike noted that the President’s support and the legislature’s quick approval of funding were crucial for delivering infrastructure across Abuja.
The President was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom Wike thanked for standing in for Mr. Tinubu.
Wike recalled the state of the area when the President first visited in 2024 to lay the foundation for the Renewed Hope City.
“There was no road at all,” Wike said. “When the President spoke about potholes, it implied there was a road, albeit a bad one. In reality, there was simply no road — it was terrible.”
He quoted a developer who warned that investments would be futile without road construction, prompting Wike to assure them that, under the Renewed Hope agenda, the road would be built.
The contract for the Karsana District road was awarded to Lubricks in February 2025. Wike celebrated its completion, stating that the area has been transformed and that the success is a direct result of the President’s handiwork and the National Assembly’s support.
He also praised the contractor and his own team for meeting payment obligations and completing the work on schedule, noting that financing is no longer a hindrance.
“Both parties have fulfilled their obligations,” Wike concluded. “Today we see a different story — one of progress made possible by presidential leadership and legislative cooperation.”
