A woman disclosed that a standard DNA test almost shattered her marriage when physicians learned her twin sons had separate biological fathers.
She shared on Instagram (@turbanbyaipearl) that she and her husband Daniel conceived the twins following five years of infertility challenges and a successful IVF cycle. Three years later, complications arose when one child was screened for a hereditary blood condition.
The genetic specialist told them, ‘The twins do not share the same biological father,’ and she described feeling as if the air had been sucked from the room.
The revelation devastated her husband, who, believing she had been unfaithful, left the marriage even though she maintained she had been with no other man.
Determined to get answers, she requested documents from the fertility clinic that performed the IVF. She eventually learned of an internal error after a junior embryologist supposedly leaked confidential files.
The records showed that one embryo was theirs, but the second had been accidentally taken from another family during the IVF procedure.
She further alleged that the clinic became aware of the mistake months after the babies were born but chose to modify the records rather than own up to the error.
She explained, ‘My son Ethan is biologically mine and Daniel’s, while Caleb’s biological parents are two strangers. Somewhere else, another baby boy shares our genetic makeup.’
The couple filed a lawsuit against the fertility clinic together with the other affected family, and she noted that the clinic closed its doors after the scandal broke.
The account has generated strong emotional responses online, with many labeling it tragic and urging tighter oversight of fertility clinics.
