Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has shared his perspective on modern relationships, insisting that love and marriage themselves are not the cause of the many failed unions seen today.
According to Ike, the real issue arises when individuals enter relationships with the primary goal of making financial gains rather than building a sincere bond.
He explained that a relationship loses its true essence when one partner views the other merely as a source of money or personal benefit.
Ike emphasized that love should be founded on trust, honesty, and commitment, not on hidden motives.
He noted that many relationship problems stem from ulterior intentions rather than from the institution of marriage itself.
The thespian also criticized the growing trend of some women choosing partners based mainly on what they expect to receive financially.
He warned that using romance as a way to make money destroys the genuine purpose of relationships, which should be rooted in care, respect, and mutual understanding.
“Love and marriage is not a scam,” Ike said. “But there are a few people who are hungry and use relationships as a meal ticket. That’s where it becomes a scam.”
He added, “Plenty of girls go into relationships because of what they want to get from the man. They should just go and beg for money on the streets, not use relationships. Relationships are supposed to be sacred.”
Ike urged “good girls” not to listen to women whose marriages have failed and who then give misleading marriage advice online. He encouraged people to endure, to try to understand their spouse’s problems, and to work on solutions rather than staying with someone solely for financial gain.
