Donu Kogbara Criticises Wike Over Ikwerre Candidate Choice
International media personality Donu Kogbara has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for allegedly backing another Ikwerre candidate in the Rivers State governorship race.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Thursday, Kogbara said it was insensitive for Wike to support Ogundu Kingsley Chinda as the APC’s governorship nominee.
She described Chinda as a good person but argued he should have declined the offer, stating that it is wrong for him to accept the ticket.
Kogbara pointed out that Rivers State has already produced several governors from the Ikwerre ethnic group, making another Ikwerre candidacy inappropriate at this time.
“Chinda comes from more or less the same village as Wike. We have had three or four Ikwerre governors. Chinda is Ikwerre as well,” she said.
She highlighted that the Ogoni people have never held the offices of governor, deputy governor, speaker, or chief judge in Rivers State.
“It’s insensitive for Wike to bring another Ikwerre candidate. There’s never been an Ogoni governor, deputy governor, speaker, or chief judge in Rivers State,” she added.
Kogbara stressed that her opposition is based on ethical considerations, not personal dislike, and pledged to challenge Chinda’s candidacy.
“I’m going to fight Chinda over this governorship thing. It’s not personal because I like him, but for ethical reasons, Chinda should have refused to play this role. He knows it’s not his turn. His ethnic group’s turn,” she concluded.
