APC Supporters Threaten to Leave Party Over Alleged Candidate Imposition
Supporters of former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar have warned they may quit the All Progressives Congress (APC) if the party decides to impose a governorship candidate in Bauchi State.
The warning came on Friday amid growing speculation that former Bauchi State governor Muhammad Abubakar could emerge as the party’s consensus choice.
Statement from Tuggar Foundation Media Director
Ibrahim Malam, Director of Media at the Tuggar Foundation, told Saturday Punch that the movement’s members would not stay in a party where internal democracy is allegedly being undermined.
He stressed that the position reflects the views of Tuggar’s supporters, not the former minister himself, and emphasized that they would reject any arrangement that denies members the right to freely choose their candidate.
“Regarding this narration of somebody becoming the APC flag bearer who is not competent, somebody who lost an election, we can’t remain in the party where democracy is not practised.
Ibrahim Malam
Malam added that he was speaking on behalf of his team and the social media coordinators backing Tuggar, reiterating that they cannot support a party where democratic practices are ignored.
Reaction from Social Media Influencer Bello Adamu
Pharmacist and social media influencer Bello Adamu, popularly known as Elder Karofi, also denounced the alleged move to impose a candidate on party members.
Adamu described the reported consensus arrangement favouring Abubakar as an injustice and declared that none of Tuggar’s supporters would back such a candidate.
He said consultations among the supporters are ongoing, with discussions covering the possibility of defecting from the APC to another political party if the imposition proceeds.
Adamu further criticised Abubakar’s record as former governor, insisting that Tuggar remains a more competent option among the aspirants vying for the APC governorship ticket in Bauchi State.
