ADC Chieftain Accuses APC of Using Propaganda to Win 2015 Election
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured its 2015 election victory primarily through propaganda.
Okonkwo made the allegation in a post on his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that President Goodluck Jonathan was subjected to persistent attacks during the build‑up to the election.
According to Okonkwo, the opposition party portrayed Jonathan in negative terms throughout the campaign, describing him as “clueless, corrupt, insensitive and incompetent.”
He noted that Jonathan, the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, was “booted out of office through name‑calling.”
The ADC chieftain also pointed to former Minister of Information Lai Mohammed, who served as the public relations officer for Bola Tinubu, as the leader of the APC’s media propaganda effort at the time.
Okonkwo said Jonathan was repeatedly criticised for the insecurity in the North‑East and for his administration’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, which further fueled the negative narrative.
Despite the harsh criticism, Okonkwo commended Jonathan for his tolerance and commitment to democratic principles, noting that the former president did not use state power to suppress the opposition or victimise political rivals.
He quoted Jonathan’s widely cited stance during the election: “no politician’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian.”
Okonkwo added that Jonathan accepted the election outcome and congratulated his opponent, Muhammadu Buhari, even before the final results were officially declared.
