APC Chieftain George Agbakahi Blames Opposition for Own Woes Ahead of 2027 Elections
All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain George Agbakahi has rejected accusations that the ruling party is behind the internal crises affecting Nigeria’s opposition groups. He argued that the opposition’s difficulties stem from their own actions rather than any APC interference.
Speaking on the prospects of the 2027 general election, Agbakahi described the opposition as fragmented, disunited, and lacking a clear policy agenda capable of challenging the APC. He likened them to “old wine in a new bottle,” suggesting that attempts at rebranding would not alter voters’ perceptions.
“It’s not true that APC is behind their problems. They are the architects of their own challenges,” he stated. He added that the opposition offers little beyond constant criticism of the current administration, leaving Nigerians unimpressed.
Agbakahi expressed confidence that the APC would secure a decisive victory in the next presidential election. He highlighted the harmony within the APC’s National Chairman, National Working Committee, governors, and other stakeholders, contrasting it with the divided state of opposition parties.
He emphasized that party unity remains a critical factor in electoral success, describing the APC as one of the most united political parties in Africa. According to him, election outcomes depend on variables such as party structure, unity, state‑level dynamics, candidate appeal, and track records — areas where the APC currently holds an advantage.
“The APC leadership is working together with the governors and other party organs. On the other hand, the opposition parties are divided, fragmented and disintegrated,” Agbakahi concluded.
