Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, representing Cross River Central, said he has not withdrawn his lawsuit challenging Oden Ewa’s victory in the APC senatorial primary.
Earlier, the Deputy Governor claimed the parties had settled their differences and that all court cases related to the disputed APC primary had been dropped, urging supporters to rally behind Oden Ewa for the upcoming election.
On Tuesday, Senator Eteng refuted those claims.
Speaking on the senator’s behalf, supporter Emmanuel Ikpi told journalists that the reports were inaccurate, noting that talks are still preliminary and the senator has not dropped his legal action.
Ikpi labelled the stories suggesting Williams had abandoned the case as propaganda intended to pressure acceptance of the primary result.
He argued that the process that produced Oden Ewa as the APC nominee violates the law and the amended Electoral Act, and that spreading false statements about the senator’s withdrawal amounts to emotional blackmail.
Ikpi added that after the meeting, members of the public were told Senator Eteng had agreed to withdraw the cases, which is untrue.
He said shortly after the meeting, social media posts claimed the dispute was settled and the lawsuits withdrawn, which did not happen.
Ikpi maintained that the meeting only opened a channel for dialogue and did not yield any resolution or binding agreement on the senatorial ticket.
