Ganduje Claims Obi and Atiku Lack Grassroots to Defeat Tinubu
The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, stated that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and his African Democratic Congress (ADC) counterpart Atiku Abubakar do not possess the grassroots structure or regional appeal needed to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
He emphasised that the North remains strategic in every Nigerian presidential election, adding that neither Obi nor Atiku can mobilise sufficient support in that region to defeat Tinubu in 2027.
Ganduje also raised concerns about the proliferation of political parties, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to raise the threshold for party registration so that only organisations with functional structures, clear ideologies and nationwide reach are recognised.
His remarks come as opposition figures begin early consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
