ADC Confirms Atiku-Amaechi 2027 Ticket
The media aide to Atiku Abubakar, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abdulrasheed Shehu, has announced that the joint ticket with former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi is settled.
Aide Explains Delay in Official Unveiling
In a post on 𝕏, Shehu said the confirmation of Amaechi as the vice‑presidential candidate is pending only because Atiku is currently on a short business trip. He wrote:
“Atiku/Amaechi is settled. His Excellency is on a short business trip. Once he returns, Amaechi will be officially unveiled in a few days as the VP candidate. Stop posting fake news.”
Shehu urged supporters and the public to refrain from circulating unverified information while awaiting the formal announcement.
ADC Chieftain Rebukes Kenneth Okonkwo’s Critique
Meanwhile, ADC chieftain Eze Chukwuemeka Eze criticised Kenneth Okonkwo for his reaction to the party’s choice of running mate. Okonkwo had argued that selecting Amaechi would continue the marginalisation of the South‑East, noting that the region has not produced a president or vice president since 1999.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Eze described Okonkwo’s remarks as “misguided and unfortunate trash,” adding that Okonkwo appears “confused and overzealous, treating politics as if it were a Nollywood script.”
The ADC leadership maintains that the Atiku‑Amaechi ticket is a strategic move aimed at broadening the party’s appeal across geo‑political zones ahead of the 2027 general elections.
