Rarara Blasts Davido Over FIFA Jacket Display
Famous Hausa praise singer Dauda Adamu Kahutu, widely known as Rarara, has publicly criticised Afrobeats sensation Davido for what he describes as a barbaric act that threatens Nigeria’s image.
The controversy stems from Davido’s appearance at a recent FIFA‑related concert, where he wore a jacket inscribed with the phrase “Bring Them Home” and bearing the names of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State.
Rarara’s Reaction
In a video shared on his verified Facebook page, Rarara expressed his disapproval, stating:
“I do not usually reply or react to issues like this, but what Davido did was barbaric. In my opinion, Davido and those who share his way of thinking are only behaving foolishly.”
He questioned the motive behind showcasing a sensitive national security issue on an international stage, asking:
“How can you promote Ansaru terrorists or insecurity‑related issues to the whole world? How can you take a sensitive national security matter and project it globally in a way that could damage the country’s image?”
Allegations of Political Motive
Rarara went further, suggesting that Davido’s actions were driven by political interests tied to his uncle’s electoral bid under the Accord Party, aiming to undermine the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu of the APC.
“Is it because his uncle is contesting an election on the Accord party and Tinubu is in APC? Is that why insecurity must become a campaign tool? Anyone who campaigns with insecurity is insane, because he does not fully understand what it entails.”
He likened the act to publicly exposing a family member’s private matter for sympathy, arguing that such behaviour is both misguided and harmful.
Call for Caution on Security Matters
The praise singer warned that security issues are delicate and should not be treated casually. He noted that the abductions in Oyo State followed the arrest of terrorists, and that the kidnappers used the children as leverage to negotiate their release.
“The President and security agencies had vowed that the terrorists would not be released and that the children would be rescued. It was during this delicate period that Davido chose to embarrass us on a global stage.”
Rarara urged content creators to understand the implications of their work, warning that some are either sponsored by politicians or merely chasing engagement, inadvertently aiding terrorist narratives.
Conclusion
The episode has sparked a broader debate about the responsibility of celebrities when addressing national security topics. While Davido’s intention may have been to highlight the plight of the abducted children, critics like Rarara argue that the method employed risks amplifying insecurity and damaging Nigeria’s reputation abroad.
