AC Milan have opened discussions with Mauricio Pochettino as they seek a new head coach following the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri.
The Rossoneri endured a disappointing Serie A campaign that saw them miss out on Champions League qualification for next season.
Pochettino, currently in charge of the United States men’s national team, has emerged as a leading candidate in Milan’s search.
According to BBC Sport, the Argentine coach remains focused on the upcoming World Cup, but Milan are reportedly interested in securing his services once his contract with U.S. Soccer expires.
The 54‑year‑old has not led a club side since his departure from Chelsea at the close of the 2023‑24 campaign.
During his lone season at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino guided Chelsea to a sixth‑place Premier League finish and took them to the Carabao Cup final.
Prior to Chelsea, he spent 18 months at Paris Saint‑Germain, where he captured the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup.
Pochettino is perhaps best known for his five‑year stint at Tottenham Hotspur, during which he transformed the side into a regular Premier League and European contender, culminating in a UEFA Champions League final appearance in 2019.
His managerial résumé also includes spells at Southampton and Espanyol, and as a player he earned 20 caps for Argentina as a defender.
AC Milan opted to relieve Massimiliano Allegri of his duties after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.
The former Serie A champions finished fifth in the league after a 2‑1 home loss to Cagliari on the final matchday.
Although Milan secured a place in the UEFA Europa League, the hierarchy viewed the season as a major disappointment.
The failure to return to Europe’s premier club competition for a second straight year is said to have been the decisive factor in Allegri’s dismissal.
Milan are now expected to continue evaluating managerial options as they aim to rebuild the squad and reclaim their place among Europe’s elite.
