Overview of the ADC Primary Results
Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has been declared the winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary in Ebonyi State. The announcement was made by Bassey Edogi Imoke, the Coordinator of Electoral Matters and Returning Officer for the exercise.
According to Imoke, Atiku Abubakar received 1,210 votes, while Muhammad Hayatu-Deen secured 4,840 votes. Amaechi’s total surpassed both opponents, earning him the party’s nomination for the 2027 general election.
Details of the Electoral Process
The ADC opted for a direct primary system, allowing delegates from all 171 political wards in Ebonyi State to participate. A total of 12,641 delegates were registered, with 12,100 accredited and present for the vote. All accredited delegates cast valid ballots, resulting in 12,100 valid votes.
Reactions from Party Leaders
Ebonyi State ADC Chairman Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor noted that the primary commenced peacefully, with no reports of violence or irregularities. She emphasized that the secret ballot gave members a fair chance to choose the best candidate among the three aspirants.
Adibe-Nwafor congratulated Amaechi on his victory and commended party members for maintaining an orderly and credible election. She affirmed that no delegate was coerced and that all aspirants enjoyed a level playing field.
Paschal Okafor, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, echoed these sentiments, describing the exercise as fair, free, and transparent. He thanked ADC members for fostering a peaceful atmosphere throughout the process.
