Peter Obi Vows Not to Target Political Opponents If Elected President
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has assured Nigerians that he will not persecute political opponents should he win the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on his vision for governance, Obi said he would ensure a viable opposition and sit with them to discuss national issues.
“The system must work the way it should function. I would never prosecute anybody politically, and I would never do anything wrong while in office,” he stated.
He added that he would not go after opponents, but instead strengthen opposition parties so they can freely say no, and invite them during times of crisis.
Regarding the current insecurity in the North, Obi said he would call together opposition parties and stakeholders to find solutions.
Kwankwaso Confirms One‑Term Agreement with Obi
Former Kano State Governor and NDC’s 2027 vice‑presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, reaffirmed that Peter Obi would serve only one term if elected.
Kwankwaso disclosed that a written agreement exists — one with the party and another between himself and Obi — stipulating the one‑term presidency.
He expressed confidence that Obi will honour the pledge, noting that he does not believe Obi will change his mind.
Kwankwaso also hinted at his own future ambitions, pointing out that, under Nigeria’s rotational presidency agreement, the North is slated to produce the president in 2031.
