A Nigerian woman has publicly criticized the South Korean Embassy in Lagos for the inhumane treatment of visa applicants.
In a video circulating on social media, she claimed that individuals seeking visas were forced to wait for hours under direct sunlight without any proper shelter or seating area, despite the embassy receiving a large number of visitors.
Lady Describes Her Visa Application Ordeal
She explained that she arrived at the embassy around 9:30 a.m., received queue number 19, and while she did not object to waiting, she questioned why applicants were made to sit on a gutter pavement outside the building.
Furthermore, she noted that some people had been present since 6 a.m., yet there was no place for them to sit while awaiting service.
She said the video aims to draw the embassy’s attention, urging officials to treat applicants with dignity, noting that this was her second visit.
She mentioned arriving on a Monday at about 9:30 a.m., receiving ticket number 19, which she said was not the issue.
She expressed frustration at having to sit on a gutter edge, questioning why such conditions were imposed.
She acknowledged limited processing capacity but argued that the embassy should provide a sheltered waiting area for applicants.
She pointed out the absence of seating, showing that others were forced to stand.
She criticized the embassy’s large premises for failing to allocate any shaded or seated area.
She suggested reinstating an appointment system to manage visitor flow effectively.
She noted that early arrivals also lacked seating, and after waiting over two hours she was instructed to return the next day, which she found unacceptable.
She stated that staff informed her applications are not accepted after 11 a.m., a detail absent from the embassy’s online resources.
She concluded that everyone was dismissed and asked to return tomorrow, and she was heading home.
